Judge throws out Trump's $10B suit against the Wall Street Journal — with prejudice, so it can't be refiled
Saturday afternoon in Miami, U.S. District Judge Darrin Gayles dismissed with prejudice Trump's $10 billion defamation suit against the Wall Street Journal and Rupert Murdoch over the paper's story on a bawdy 2003 Epstein birthday-book letter bearing Trump's name. Ruling: Trump again failed to plead actual malice — the NYT v. Sullivan standard for public figures — and the judge called the attempt to manufacture flaws in the Journal's reporting "grasping at straws," noting the paper had sought Trump's comment and printed his denial. Gayles had already dismissed the first version in April and let him amend in May; "with prejudice" ends it in district court. An appeal is still possible, and the Journal can seek attorneys' fees within 30 days. The ruling does not decide who wrote the letter — that stays contested.
