Oregon school shooting: victims named, teacher tackled the gunman
Friday's police briefing filled in Thursday's attack at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend. Shooter Griffin J. John II, 16, a former student, fired at least 15 shotgun rounds in his former special-needs classroom. Killed: Rhoam Summer, 5, two boys ages 8 and 11, and teacher Megan Lambert, 25. A teacher threw her cellphone at John and tackled him to wrestle the gun away — uninjured, and police say she almost certainly prevented more bloodshed — before parent Kaylub Giamanco, 36, who had followed John in, fatally shot him. Critically wounded: a 7-year-old girl, now in Portland, and educational assistant Becky Drury, 54, facing more surgery this weekend. Motive is still unknown, police said Friday.
